In the ongoing fight against human trafficking in Malawi, The Voice of Hope and Hope Channel Malawi will launch a weekly public awareness magazine, "M'chipululu," on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.
Pastor Charles Thangalimodzi, Director of Hope Media Center, stated, "This initiative supports both the Malawi Government and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church's public awareness efforts against human trafficking. The program aims to provide accurate information and promote behaviors to combat human trafficking."
Goodwill Ambassador Maxwell Matewere from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime emphasized, "There is a need for Malawians to address human trafficking, noting its impact on the country's development. Traffickers exploit desperate young people, offering forced opportunities both within Malawi and abroad."
The "M'chipululu" program focuses on four main objectives: promoting the Seventh-Day Adventist Church's stance on human trafficking, assisting the Malawi Government in enforcing national legal frameworks, raising awareness among government and stakeholders, and encouraging the church and its members to participate in anti-trafficking efforts and support victims.
Human trafficking, defined as a criminal activity involving the recruitment, transportation, harboring, or receipt of persons through various coercive means, remains a significant challenge.
The "M'chipululu" program strives to address this issue by fostering awareness and collective action against human trafficking.
